YACHULI, Aug 12: The District Highway Safety Task Force (DHSTF), Keyi Panyor, convened a meeting at the Mini Secretariat here today to discuss the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prepared by the Task Force and deliberate upon the immediate implementation of measures for removal of encroachments, regulation of illegal parking and strengthening of surveillance along the national highways (NH-13 & NH-713) in the district.
Chairing the meeting, Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Ankita Mishra, expressed serious concern over recurring road accidents and the loss of precious lives, particularly among young people. She stressed the need for strict enforcement of road safety measures and coordinated action among all concerned departments and stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by Nabam Piju, ZPC Keyi Panyor; Dr Mumne Borang, Assistant Commissioner Yachuli; Hage Nado, DySP; other administrative officers; ZPMs; and officials from PWD (Highways), NHIDCL, DDRD and Trade & Commerce Department, among others.
Earlier, the DC told the members that the constitution and functioning of the DHSTF, along with preparation of the SOP, are being undertaken in compliance with the directives of the Supreme Court of India in Suo Motu Writ Petition (Civil) No 2 of 2023 (In Re: Phalodi Accident Case) and subsequent instructions received from the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh dated July 31, 2026.
During the meeting, the members held detailed discussions on the provisions of the prepared SOP and the measures required for its effective implementation.
The Task Force emphasized the need for regular coordination meetings among the concerned departments and stakeholders to review highway safety measures and ensure timely corrective action.
The DC directed the concerned departments to take immediate steps for identification and listing of black spots along the NH-13 & NH-713 in the district and explore effective ways and means to rectify the identified hazardous locations.
She further called for greater community participation and collaboration with local organizations and NGOs, besides convergence among concerned departments, to strengthen road safety efforts.
The DHSTF resolved to ensure effective implementation of the SOP and coordinated enforcement measures with the objective of making the national highways in Keyi Panyor safer for commuters and preventing avoidable accidents and loss of lives, stated an official press note.
