ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has welcomed the State Cabinet’s decision to introduce uniform eligibility criteria for direct recruitment to government jobs, describing it as a “historic decision” aimed at protecting the interests of the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
In a statement, AAPSU thanked the state government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu for accepting its demand to make APST status, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) and proficiency in an indigenous tribal language mandatory eligibility criteria for direct recruitment to government posts.
AAPSU president Meje Taku and general secretary Mato Bui said the union appreciated the Cabinet decision and termed it an important step towards safeguarding the rights, identity and future of the indigenous people of the state.
At the same time, the union said it would continue to pursue the matter until the decision was implemented “in letter and spirit”.
AAPSU also urged the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) not to issue any new recruitment examination advertisements until the newly approved eligibility provisions and corresponding Recruitment Rules are fully implemented.
The apex student body said it would continue to monitor the implementation of the Cabinet decision and work towards ensuring that the approved provisions were effectively incorporated into the recruitment process.
