BOLENG, Aug 13: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Siang, under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), organized a legal awareness programme at St Joseph School, Kaying on Wednesday on the occasion of International Youth Day 2026.
Conducted under the NALSA JAGRITI Scheme, 2025, the programme on the theme ‘Empowered Youth, Stronger India’ was attended by students, teachers and staff of the school.
The DLSA team, comprising Gei Noshi and Keni Loyi as resource persons, along with DLSA staff Anthony Komut and Ojing Pari, interacted with the participants and sensitized them about the functions and services of the District Legal Services Authority, including the availability of free legal aid to eligible persons and various legal services initiatives and schemes of NALSA.
Loyi addressed the students on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, creating awareness about the safeguards available to children against sexual offences, their rights under the law and the importance of timely reporting and seeking appropriate assistance.
Noshi spoke on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, sensitizing the students on the legal framework relating to children and the mechanisms available for their care, protection and rehabilitation.
Awareness was also created on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, with emphasis on the harmful consequences of substance abuse and the need for young people to make informed and responsible choices.
Pamphlets and legal awareness materials were distributed among the participants. The students actively participated in the programme and raised queries on various legal issues, which were addressed by the resource persons.
The programme concluded with an emphasis on legal awareness, responsible citizenship and empowering young people through knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. (DIPRO)
