21 units of blood collected at VBD camp in Ziro

ZIRO, Aug 17: Bringing the community together for a cause, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and the Red Ribbon Club of St Claret College, Ziro teamed up with the Blood Centre at Gyati Takka Zonal General Hospital (GTZGH) to host an Outdoor Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD) Camp on campus today. The event focused on encouraging young people to take the lead in voluntary donation while highlighting how much of a difference a single donor can make.

The college community showed up with great energy, as 32 potential donors—9 males and 23 females—turned out for the initial health screenings. By the end of the day, 21 units of safe blood were collected (8 from male donors and 13 from female donors). The total haul included 8 units of A+, 4 units of B+, 6 units of O+, and 3 units of AB+, with the medical team reporting zero donor reactions throughout the drive.

Beyond collecting blood, the camp turned out to be an eye-opener for personal health. Routine donor screenings helped catch 2 cases of hidden hypertension and 4 cases of anemia. The medical team made sure everyone screened got their blood group checked, while those diagnosed were gently counseled and guided toward proper follow-up treatment.

The event was brought to life through the coordinated efforts of NSS Programme Officers Jeremia Modi, Nending Sumpi, and Tage Tagyung, along with Red Ribbon Club Coordinator Withoam Socia. (DIPRO)
