ITANAGAR, Aug 19: A delegation of the Galo Youth Organisation (GYO), led by its president Bomkar Gara and general secretary Geken Boje, met Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office on August 16 and urged the early sanctioning of the 7th India Reserve Battalion (IRBN) and establishment of its headquarters at Torajan under Kangku circle in Lower Siang district.
The delegation submitted a one-point memorandum to the Chief Minister, following up on representations made earlier on January 10 and August 18, 2025, regarding the long-pending demand.
During the meeting, the GYO highlighted security concerns along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border and stressed the need for permanent deployment of security forces in the area to ensure the safety and security of people living in the border region.
According to a statement issued by the GYO, Chief Minister Pema Khandu gave an assurance that the matter would be taken up on priority. He also reiterated that the headquarters of the 7th IRBN would be established at Torajan at the earliest to strengthen border security and safeguard the interests of the people residing in the region.
The GYO expressed appreciation to the Chief Minister for his positive response and for considering the long-pending demand of the organisation and the people of Kangku circle, the Galo community and the wider region.
