SIR-2026 review meeting held in East Kameng

SEPPA, Aug 19: A review meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls-2026 was held at the Abo Tani Conference Hall, District Secretariat here to assess the progress of the revision exercise and review the preparedness of the election machinery in East Kameng district.

The meeting was chaired by Commissioner (Finance) and Electoral Roll Observer for East Kameng, Y W Ringu, and attended by MLA Ealing Tallang, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Pai Pizi Yangfo, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Yashaswini B, EROs, AEROs, ZPMs, representatives of political parties, election officials, BLOs and other stakeholders.

A detailed presentation on the Phase-III status of SIR-2026 covered the baseline status of electors, digitisation of enumeration forms, notices generated and delivered, hearings conducted, Assembly Constituency-wise progress, discrepancies and pending cases.

Field-level challenges, including non-availability of requisite documents, data and credential mismatches, difficulties in notice delivery and logistical issues, were also discussed, with emphasis on expediting the disposal of pending hearings.

Briefing the participants, DEO Yashaswini B stressed the importance of SIR-2026 in ensuring an accurate, updated, inclusive and credible electoral roll. She informed that the hearing process is scheduled to be completed by September 18, 2026, and called upon all election officials and field functionaries to work in a coordinated and time-bound manner.

Ringu stressed that the objective of SIR was to safeguard the integrity and accuracy of the electoral roll through a transparent and systematic process. She urged political parties and public representatives to disseminate authentic information about the revision process and encourage eligible citizens to participate.

She said the exercise should not be viewed merely as a process for removing ineligible entries, but also as an opportunity to ensure the inclusion of all eligible electors whose names may not be reflected in the electoral roll.

The Electoral Roll Observer further stressed the role of EROs, AEROs, election officials and BLOs in processing claims and objections diligently and impartially, providing electors due opportunity to submit prescribed documents and establish their claims as per Election Commission of India guidelines.

A detailed interaction was subsequently held among public representatives, political party representatives, election officials and field functionaries on Assembly Constituency-wise hearing progress, digitisation of electoral forms, pending cases, verification procedures and field-level challenges. Participants shared suggestions for improving coordination and expediting the remaining work.

The meeting concluded with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to completing the SIR process within the stipulated timeline and ensuring a transparent, inclusive, accurate and credible electoral roll for East Kameng district. (DIPRO)
