APU holds its 2nd Induction-cum-Orientation Program

PASIGHAT, Aug 19: Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) today held its 2nd Induction-cum-Orientation Programme at its academic block, welcoming postgraduate students and introducing them to the institution’s academic, administrative and student-support systems.

Speaking at the themed ‘A Journey of Learning, Research and Innovation’, Registrar Narmi Darang announced plans to introduce new academic departments, including Anthropology, Political Science, and others, along with efforts to recruit additional faculty.

He also outlined a slate of upcoming infrastructure projects, among them a new academic block, 100-bedded hostels for male and female students, a university guest house, faculty quarters, library upgrades and a proposed rooftop library or cafeteria.

Controller of Examinations Dr Monshi Tayeng urged students to recognise their responsibilities to themselves, their families and society, cautioning against distractions that could derail their academic goals.

Dean of Academic Affairs Prof P C Jena then spoke on APU's curriculum under the National Education Policy 2020, highlighting features such as credit transfer, multiple entry and exit points, open electives and continuous evaluation. He asked students to follow five guiding principles through their academic journey: regular attendance, seriousness in learning, curiosity in research, honesty in examinations, and responsible conduct.

The second session included matters of student safety and discipline.

Dr Ing Perme, HoD Hindi, briefed students on the Internal Committee, the Students' Grievance Redressal Committee, the Anti-Ragging Cell, the Anti-Tobacco Cell and the Disciplinary Committee, noting in particular that ragging — which covers physical, psychological, financial and academic exploitation, as well as cyberbullying — is a criminal offence. Students were also cautioned on the responsible use of social media and artificial intelligence in relation to the university, and were introduced to the work of the Media Cell and Literary Club.

Dr Yab Rajiv Camdir of the Commerce Department encouraged students to make full use of scholarships, library services, and sports and cultural facilities on campus.
