TAWANG, Aug 21: Preparations for the proposed International Tourism Mart (ITM) at Tawang gained momentum with Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo chairing a coordination meeting with tourism stakeholders and concerned agencies at the DC Office here on Friday.
The ITM is tentatively scheduled to be held from October 28 to 31, 2026. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta, District Tourism Officer (DTO) Tsering Deki, representatives of taxi and tour operators and other stakeholders.
DTO Tsering Deki presented the tentative day-wise programme and briefed the participants on the proposed activities during the ITM. She said the event would provide a major platform to showcase Tawang’s tourism potential, rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and hospitality to a wider audience. She sought active participation and cooperation from all stakeholders for the successful conduct of the prestigious tourism event.
Addressing the meeting, DC Namgyal Angmo stressed the need for early and coordinated preparations by all departments and stakeholders. Recalling the success of the earlier ITM held in Tawang, she said collective efforts would be required to make the upcoming event an even bigger success.
The meeting discussed the tentative itinerary and proposed visits of ITM delegates to various tourist destinations and important locations in and around Tawang.
Special emphasis was laid on cleanliness and responsible tourism. The DC interacted with representatives of the Taxi Union and tour operators on the management of plastic and other waste generated at tourist destinations and called for collective responsibility to keep tourist spots clean and environmentally sustainable.
Tour and taxi operators requested immediate repair and maintenance of the approach road to Pangateng Tso (PT Tso) ahead of the ITM, citing its importance as a prominent tourist attraction.
Detailed discussions were also held on transportation and accommodation of delegates, medical backup, traffic management, protocol arrangements, township road maintenance and coordination with the Army, paramilitary forces and other agencies.
Considering Tawang’s high-altitude conditions, the meeting also stressed the need to ensure the availability of portable oxygen cylinders at hotels and in taxis to strengthen emergency preparedness and provide necessary support to visitors and delegates.
Stakeholders shared suggestions and raised issues requiring advance attention. The District Administration assured them that the concerns would be examined and necessary coordination undertaken with the concerned departments and agencies.
The meeting concluded with a call for timely preparations, close coordination and collective responsibility to ensure the ITM’s success and showcase Tawang as a clean, safe, hospitable and world-class tourism destination. (DIPRO)
