PASIGHAT, Aug 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Siang adopted Miglung as a chemical-free village and organized an awareness programme on chemical-free farming today.
Dr Brijendra Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK East Siang, sensitized the farmers on the importance and benefits of chemical-free agriculture and explained the objectives and process of adopting Miglung as a chemical-free village.
The event was graced by local MLA Ninong Ering, ZPM Tabir Tatan, Dana Moyong, District Agriculture Officer, East Siang, and Prof P Debnath, Department of Natural Resource Management, CHF, CAU(I).
Addressing the gathering, Ering emphasized the importance of green manuring for improving soil health and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. He formally declared Miglung as a chemical-free village and urged farmers to adopt sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
Technical sessions were conducted by KVK experts. Dr Navya Bhat, SMS (Horticulture), highlighted chemical-free nursery raising and vegetable cultivation, while Dr Neeta Longjam, SMS (Vety & AH), spoke on chemical-free livestock rearing; and Dr Dinesh Kumar, Asstt Professor, CHF, CAU(I) provided guidance on soybean cultivation.
As part of the initiative, farmers were distributed soybean seeds, Rabi-season Pusa beej, Beauveria bassiana and CAU liquid biofertilizer to encourage the use of biological and eco-friendly inputs.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Toge Riba and concluded with an emphasis on collective participation of farmers and stakeholders in making Miglung a model for sustainable, safe and chemical-free agriculture.
Also, an awareness programme on Parthenium Week was organized with the farmers, in which a total of 51 villagers participated.
