ITANAGAR, Aug 22: Following a cloudburst that triggered severe flooding in Koyu circle of Lower Siang district, a flood relief material distribution programme was organized today at Koyu village to provide assistance to families and communities affected by the natural calamity.
The relief initiative was organized by North East Foundation for Health Education and Livelihood Skills (NE-HEALS), Itanagar, in association with North East Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID), Guwahati, and supported by Bogum Ao Foundation.
The relief activity benefited people from Koyu, Mane, Rina and Rotte villages, who were affected by the flood. Essential relief materials were distributed to affected families to support their immediate needs and help them cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
In addition to the distribution of essential relief materials, financial assistance amounting to Rs. 4.8 lakh was also distributed among the affected villages to help families meet urgent requirements and support their recovery efforts.
More than 100 households benefited from the relief programme.
The programme was attended by Nyachi Koyu, ZPM Upper Ramle Bango; Rage Koyu, Managing Trustee NE-HEALS; Marge Sora, president Bogum Ao Foundation; and Bapak Koyu from KobuKoyu Welfare Society. Their participation reflected the collective efforts of community representatives, civil society organizations and local stakeholders in extending support to families affected by the flood.
The villagers and PRI members present acknowledged that the relief materials and financial assistance came at an important juncture and would provide much-needed support to families as they recover from the impact of the flood.
The community representatives also appreciated the collective efforts of NE-HEALS, NE-AID and Bogum Ao Foundation for responding promptly to the situation and extending assistance directly to the affected villages.
The relief initiative represents a collective effort to stand with flood-affected communities during a difficult time and to extend timely assistance towards their recovery and rebuilding of lives.
