ITANAGAR, Aug 22: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday organised a one-day RTI Orientation-cum-Congress Connect Training Programme at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here, with a focus on strengthening the party's organisational capacity, political awareness and communication network from the State level to the grassroots.
The programme brought together Congress leaders and workers from the State, district and block levels and focused on promoting fact-based politics, effective use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and stronger coordination within the organisation.
The RTI orientation was organised by the RTI Cell of the APCC under the initiative of APCC vice president and advocate Abraham K Techi. Prof Nani Bath of Rajiv Gandhi University, former MLA and RTI activist Techi Hemu, APCC president Bosiram Siram and Abraham K Techi were among the resource persons.
The participants were briefed on the provisions and practical application of the RTI Act, 2005, particularly in matters relating to transparency, accountability, governance and utilisation of public resources.
The APCC stressed the need for its leaders and workers to base political allegations on verifiable facts and documents and to use democratic and constitutional mechanisms to raise issues concerning public interest.
The afternoon session saw the formal launch of Congress Connect in Arunachal Pradesh by AICC national coordinator Shiju P, who is in-charge of the North-East India.
The initiative seeks to improve communication and coordination between the party leadership and workers across the State. The APCC said the mechanism would facilitate a two-way flow of information, enabling grassroots workers to communicate public grievances to the leadership while ensuring that party programmes and decisions reach districts, blocks, booths and villages effectively.
The programme also witnessed the launch of the APCC State Media War Room under the chairmanship of Kon Jirjo Jotham, chairman of the APCC Media and Social Media Department.
The War Room will function as a centralised communication and rapid-response mechanism, focusing on political developments, public issues, government policies and programmes, media narratives and misinformation. It will also coordinate with party spokespersons and media and social media teams at the district and grassroots levels.
The APCC said the initiative aims to make its communication system more proactive, research-driven, issue-based and responsive, while ensuring that public concerns are highlighted in a timely and coordinated manner.
Emphasising the importance of grassroots connectivity, the party leadership said organisational communication must function in both directions—from the people to the State leadership and from the leadership to the grassroots.
Congress leaders and workers were urged to remain connected with the people, identify and document public grievances, verify information and take up genuine issues through appropriate political and constitutional forums.
The APCC said the initiatives were part of its broader effort to build a more informed, disciplined, responsive and people-centric organisation in Arunachal Pradesh, with greater emphasis on evidence-based politics, transparency and accountability.
