YUPIA, Aug 26: The Papum Pare District Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, organised an awareness and sensitisation camp on laws protecting women from domestic violence and sexual harassment at the workplace here on Wednesday.
The programme focused on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act), with the objective of promoting awareness about the legal rights, safety and dignity of women.
Kakoi Circle Officer Rongni Bagang, attending the programme, appreciated the WCD Department for conducting awareness programmes on issues concerning women’s rights and protection. He urged participants to understand the provisions of the two laws and disseminate the information within their respective communities. He also stressed the importance of government offices, PSUs and private establishments constituting Internal Committees (ICs) as mandated under the POSH Act.
Deputy Director, District ICDS Cell, Yupia, Jaya Taba, in her keynote address, highlighted the department’s continued efforts to create awareness about laws and schemes concerning the protection and welfare of women and children.
She emphasised that greater awareness of legal provisions and their effective dissemination can contribute towards creating a safer, more equitable and supportive society.
During the technical sessions, Advocate and Juvenile Justice Board Member Likha Asha Nyekam explained the key provisions of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, while CDPO Tana Chammaro spoke on the provisions and institutional mechanisms under the POSH Act, 2013.
The programme witnessed the participation of more than 50 people, including police personnel, government officials, Gaon Burahs, PRI members and members of the public from the Kimin administrative jurisdiction.
The camp underscored the importance of legal awareness, institutional responsibility and community participation in preventing violence and harassment against women and ensuring access to appropriate support and redressal mechanisms. (DIPRO)
