Itanagar, Aug 27: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik extended warm greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and called for strengthening the bonds of love, trust, harmony and mutual respect in society.
In his message, the Governor described Raksha Bandhan as a timeless celebration of the unique bond between brothers and sisters, embodying the values of care, respect, responsibility and mutual support. He said the festival goes beyond the ceremonial tying of the rakhi and reminds people of their collective responsibility to protect and uplift one another, particularly women, with dignity and compassion.
The Governor said Raksha Bandhan also carries a broader social message of unity, emotional connectedness and mutual trust, transcending barriers of caste, creed, language and region. In a diverse country like India, he said, the festival serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, cooperation and social cohesion in building a peaceful and progressive society.
He expressed hope that the festival would further strengthen family ties, nurture communal harmony and reinforce the spirit of peaceful coexistence.
Raksha Bandhan celebrated at Lok Bhavan
Meanwhile, Raksha Bandhan was celebrated at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, where students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Chimpu, accompanied by their teachers, called on the Governor and tied rakhis to him.
Interacting with the students, Parnaik said the festival not only celebrates the brother-sister relationship but also reminds every citizen of the collective duty to protect and nurture the values that bind society together. He said the thread of rakhi symbolises a pledge to stand by one another in times of need and to contribute towards creating a caring and inclusive society.
The Governor advised the students to grow into responsible and useful citizens by cultivating discipline, integrity, empathy and a spirit of service. He encouraged them to pursue excellence in their chosen fields and assured them of his support in pursuing their aspirations.
Members of the Brahma Kumaris, led by Brahma Kumari Junu, also tied rakhis to the Governor on the occasion. The Governor appreciated the organisation for its selfless service and sustained efforts to promote spiritual values, moral education, peace and social harmony.
