ZIRO, Aug 27: The District Level NCORD Committee of Lower Subansiri has decided to strengthen grassroots-level efforts against substance abuse by introducing dedicated complaint and feedback boxes in schools across the district.
The decision was taken during the 22nd coordination meeting of the Committee held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall here on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner and NCORD Chairman Oli Perme and attended by senior officials from the district administration, police, security forces and health-related departments.
Opening the meeting, Superintendent of Police and NCORD Committee convener Keni Bagra reviewed the action taken on decisions of the previous, 21st coordination meeting and outlined key priorities for intensifying the district’s anti-drug efforts.
A major focus of the meeting was on strengthening drug-awareness initiatives in schools. The committee decided to roll out targeted awareness programmes aimed at educating students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and preventing them from falling prey to addiction.
As part of the initiative, dedicated complaint and feedback boxes will be installed in schools to provide students with a safe and accessible avenue to report concerns, seek assistance or share information related to substance abuse. The mechanism is also expected to help authorities identify issues at the grassroots level and facilitate timely intervention.
The meeting was attended by officials including the Deputy Director, ICDS, Superintendent of Tax, Excise & Narcotics, and representatives of the CRPF, ITBP and Narcotics Control Bureau.
The district administration reiterated that tackling substance abuse requires a coordinated and sustained approach involving law-enforcement agencies, educational institutions, families and the wider community.
Officials emphasised the need to combine enforcement measures with awareness, counselling and support for vulnerable youth to create a healthier and drug-free environment in Lower Subansiri. (DIPRO)
