TEZU, Aug 29: Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC), Tezu, hosted a two-day national workshop on bioinformatics and signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, aimed at strengthening academic and research collaboration.
Titled “Hands-on Training on Basic Tools and Applications of Bioinformatics,” the workshop was organised by the Department of Zoology, IGGC, and sponsored by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme commenced on August 27 with an inaugural session, followed by technical sessions over two days. Around 90 students, research scholars and faculty members participated in the workshop, gaining theoretical and practical exposure to various bioinformatics tools and their applications.
Prof (Dr) Jatin Sarmah, Rector of Bodoland University, delivered the keynote address, providing insights into the evolving landscape of bioinformatics and explaining the central dogma of molecular biology from a data-driven perspective.
IGGC Principal Dr Kangki Megu highlighted the growing importance of integrating computational approaches with biological research and encouraged participants to develop skills in emerging interdisciplinary areas.
A major highlight of the programme was the signing of a three-year MoU between IGGC Tezu and Bodoland University on August 28. The agreement was formally executed by the Principal of IGGC and the Registrar of Bodoland University.
The MoU provides a framework for collaboration in joint research, organisation of workshops and academic programmes, student and faculty exchange, and sharing of academic facilities and resources.
The collaboration is expected to create greater opportunities for students and faculty members of both institutions and promote interdisciplinary research and capacity building in bioinformatics and related fields.
