ITANAGAR, Sep 1: The Adi community residing in the Itanagar Capital Region celebrated Solung, the annual agriculture based festival, with traditional gaitey at the Solung-Mopin Ground here on Tuesday, showcasing the community’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and close connection with agriculture.
The celebrations were organised by the Solung Festival Celebration Committee, Itanagar Capital Region-2026.
Attending the celebration as chief guest, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini called upon the community to preserve and pass on its traditions, culture, language and traditional knowledge to the younger generation.
He stressed the importance of celebrating traditional festivals and safeguarding tribal identity and indigenous practices, urging the youth to remain connected with their cultural roots.
Jini also appreciated the traditional dance and cultural performances presented during the celebration, saying they reflected the richness and diversity of Adi culture.
AAPSU president Meje Taku, who attended the event as guest of honour, also urged the younger generation to take an active role in preserving the community’s traditions and cultural heritage.
Taku particularly called upon families to use their mother tongue more frequently at home, saying regular use of the language would help ensure that the community’s linguistic and cultural heritage is transmitted to future generations.
The celebration featured traditional cultural presentations and provided an opportunity for members of the Adi community in the capital region to come together and celebrate their heritage.
