TAWANG, Sep 3: The Women and Child Development (WCD) Department, Tawang, organised a one-day awareness programme on Women and Child Protection Laws and Schemes at the DC Conference Hall here on Thursday.
Teachers from government and private schools and other stakeholders attended the programme, where advocates from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and officials from the One Stop Centre (OSC), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Tawang Police Station acted as resource persons.
The participants were sensitised on key provisions of the POCSO Act, Adoption Regulations, 2017, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and relevant labour laws.
The sessions highlighted the role of teachers and frontline stakeholders in identifying abuse and exploitation, timely reporting and facilitating access to legal and institutional support.
Inspector Nii Angu stressed the need for greater legal awareness and community participation in preventing crimes against women and children, while DCPU Protection Officer Yeshi Yangzom briefed the participants on Mission Vatsalya and available child protection mechanisms and support services.
CDPO Tawang Dondup Pema urged the participants to disseminate the information and strengthen coordination among schools, families, government agencies and law-enforcement authorities to ensure a safer and protective environment for women and children in the district.
