NAMSAI, Sep 6: Solung Festival was celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm at N R Lotong Gi:di.Notko Jaipur, Namsai, highlighting the rich customs, traditions and artistic heritage of the Adi community.
The programme featured colourful traditional cultural performances, adding vibrancy and grandeur to the celebration and providing an opportunity for the younger generation to showcase and appreciate rich artistic traditions of the community.
A special highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a Hindi audio album by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Chowna Mein, aimed at promoting and preserving the rich heritage, music and artistic expressions of the Adi community.
Speaking on the occasion, the Dy CM highlighted the importance of preserving the State’s indigenous languages, music and traditional practices in the face of changing times. He said that festivals such as Solung provide an important platform for the younger generation to understand their roots and carry forward the values and traditions inherited from their forefathers.
Dr Mein further called upon the community to document and promote traditional knowledge, art forms and music, while encouraging the youth to actively participate in such initiatives. He stressed that safeguarding indigenous identity is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of both the community and the younger generation.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge, in his speech, spoke on the significance of Solung as an important occasion that brings communities together and strengthens social bonds. He emphasized the need to uphold indigenous practices and ensure their transmission to future generations.
Dambuk MLA Punyo Apun stressed the importance of safeguarding indigenous customs and encouraging the younger generation to remain connected with their roots. He also called for greater participation of youth in preserving traditional practices and knowledge.
In his address, local MLA Zingnu Namchoom highlighted the significance of Solung in preserving the identity, customs and age-old practices of the Adi community. He called for collective efforts to ensure that these values and traditions are passed on to the younger generation.
Namsai ZPC Chow Sujana Namchoom also attended the programme.
The Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Heads of Offices and other dignitaries, along with members of the Adi community, were present on the occasion. (DIPRO)
