ITANAGAR, Sep 8: The North East Human Rights (NEHR) has raised concern over non-payment of land compensation as per norms to the villagers affected by the frontier highway project across the State.
Addressing reporters at the APC here today, NEHR chairperson Ebo Mili claimed that NEHR has received complaints from various districts, particularly West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Dibang Valley and Anjaw.
“The land affected villagers of the frontier highway project have claimed that the state government, especially the Land Management department, is not paying the compensation amount as per land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement Act, (LARR Act),” he said.
Mili informed that the villagers had approached the court regarding the matter, following which the court directed the department to pay the amount as per the guidelines; but the department did not comply with the court order.
“Despite several meetings with the concerned authorities, the issue remains unresolved,” he said.
The NEHR chairperson said that the villagers have now decided to go for democratic movement against the state government in the form of a bandh call in Itanagar if the state government fails to solve the matter by September 27.
