YUPIA, Sep 8: International Literacy Day (ILD) was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Govt Primary School (GPS), Rono (Doimukh), as part of the ULLAS – Literacy Fortnight celebrations.
The programme was graced by T T Tara, Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE), Yupia, as chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Tara highlighted the importance of literacy in individual empowerment and overall societal development. He called upon all sections of society to extend active voluntary cooperation towards the collective goal of completely eradicating illiteracy from the district.
Earlier, C K Yab, DAEO i/c, highlighted the significance of International Literacy Day and briefed the gathering on the progress of the New India Literacy Programme (NILP), which is presently in its final phase of implementation.
Kuku Nabam Hina, Gram Panchayat Chairperson (GPC) Rono, and Nabam Bittu, Block Resource Centre Coordinator (BRCC), Doimukh, also addressed the gathering and reaffirmed their commitment towards strengthening literacy and educational initiatives in the district.
A cultural presentation by the students of GPS Rono added colour to the programme and highlighted the enthusiasm and creativity of the young participants.
As part of the ULLAS – Literacy Fortnight-cum-International Literacy Day celebrations, prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of the District-Level Essay Writing Competition.
The winners were Tem Merry, Class XI, GHSS Balijan (1st – Rs 5000), Kayir Gadi, Class XII, GHSS Sagalee (2nd -Rs 3000), and Joli Rimo, Class VIII, GHSS RGU Campus (3– Rs 2,000).
