Electoral Roll Observer reviews SIR process in Tawang

TAWANG, Sep 11: Electoral Roll Observer (SIR) for Tawang district, Yeshi Wangmu Ringu, Commissioner (Finance), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, conducted the second review of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the district on Friday.

Addressing Booth Level Officers of Tawang Assembly Constituency, Ringu stressed that no eligible citizen should be denied the opportunity to enrol in the electoral roll. She emphasised that the revision process must remain free, fair and transparent.

The Observer also clarified that enrolment in the electoral roll is voluntary and that no individual can be compelled to enrol against his or her willingness.

Appreciating the sincere efforts of the BLOs and other election officials under the leadership of the District Election Officer, Tawang, Ringu expressed confidence that their collective efforts would help in preparing an accurate, comprehensive and error-free final electoral roll after completion of the hearing and disposal process.

Commending the BLOs for their contribution, she urged them to extend similar cooperation to the district administration in future assignments and reminded them that election duty is an important responsibility towards the nation and the democratic process.

The interaction with the BLOs was followed by a review meeting with the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of the district. The respective EROs presented detailed updates on the progress of the SIR in their constituencies.

Ringu reviewed the preparations and discussed with the EROs and AEROs the key dos and don’ts to be followed before publication of the electoral roll. She stressed the need for due diligence and strict adherence to prescribed procedures.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, briefed the Observer on the progress made since the previous review. She informed that necessary corrections and follow-up actions had been undertaken in accordance with the observations and directions issued by the Electoral Roll Observer during her earlier review.
