YUPIA, Sep 14: A three-day circle-level training programme on the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), focusing on ‘Quality Control and Hands-on Field Training’, commenced at the Panchayat conference hall here today.
Organized by the Rural Works Department (RWD), Poma-Yupia Division, the training programme aims to enhance the technical knowledge and practical skills of participating engineers in various aspects of road construction, quality control and execution of works, thereby contributing towards improved quality and durability of PMGSY road projects.
The inaugural programme was graced by Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek as chief guest, and Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage as guest of honour.
Engineers from the RWD Divisions of Poma-Yupia, Sagalee and Pakke-Kessang under Itanagar circle, along with engineers and technical personnel from various reputed firms, are participating in the training, which is conducted with the support of resource persons from NIT Jote and the RWD.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA called upon engineers and technical personnel to remain honest, dedicated and committed to their profession. He emphasized the need to continuously upgrade their knowledge and equip themselves with the latest information technology and engineering skills to meet emerging challenges.
He urged the participants to attend the training programme till its conclusion and make full use of the knowledge and expertise, imparted by the resource persons. He also called upon contractors to execute projects without compromising on quality and without being driven solely by the expectation of high profits, stressing that public infrastructure projects are intended primarily for the socio-economic development and welfare of the people.
Highlighting the importance of road connectivity in overall development, Vivek said that progress in the fields of social development, economy, education, healthcare and rural upliftment cannot be achieved without reliable road connectivity. He, therefore, urged the engineers to implement PMGSY projects in a mission-mode approach with clear vision and commitment.
Vivek further informed that the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive State Rural Road Development Programme is likely to be entrusted to the Rural Works Department as the executing agency. He urged the RWD engineers to be prepared to shoulder the responsibility of implementing the programme effectively.
He also assured that the matter regarding sanction of schemes for major damaged roads falling under his Assembly constituency would be taken up with the Chief Minister and Minister RWD.
The DC, in her address, stressed the importance of constructing durable and quality roads suited to the difficult terrain and challenging climatic conditions of Arunachal Pradesh.
She emphasised that road projects should be prioritised with greater focus on providing connectivity to unconnected areas and remote belts for the benefit of the rural population. She also advised young and newly inducted engineers to work hard, continuously upgrade their technical knowledge and acquire practical field skills to effectively meet the challenges associated with project implementation and management.
Earlier, Techi Jobae, EE, RWD, Poma-Yupia, apprised the MLA and the DC of certain urgent infrastructure requirements and the challenges being faced by the department in the execution of various projects, seeking their intervention and support. (DIPRO)
