ITANAGAR, Sep 15: The All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) has served a seven-day ultimatum to All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) president Ashok Doka, demanding an unconditional public apology over alleged derogatory remarks against the Puroik community.
Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Pradesh Press Club here on Tuesday, APWS advisor Adang Yachu said an audio/video recording of an alleged personal dispute between Doka and Taje Yangfo was circulating on social media, in which Doka purportedly made objectionable remarks against the Puroik community.
Yachu clarified that “Sulung” was no longer the official name of the community, which is recognised as Puroik, a distinct Scheduled Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.
“The Puroik community has no connection with the personal dispute between Taje Yangfo and Ashok Doka. Dragging the community into their personal dispute has hurt and humiliated its members. We demand that Ashok Doka tender an unconditional public apology to the entire Puroik community for his remarks,” he said.
The APWS advisor maintained that the alleged remarks had caused resentment among members of the community and demanded that Doka publicly apologise within seven days.
The Society also warned of legal action against Doka and stated that it had already lodged an FIR at Papu Hills Police Station in connection with the matter.
