Joint operation in Changlang leads to seizure of brown sugar worth Rs 46.60 lakh

ITANAGAR, Sep 19: A joint anti-narcotics operation by the 21 Assam Rifles, Arunachal Pradesh Police and CRPF led to the seizure of 233 grams of suspected brown sugar worth approximately Rs 46.60 lakh in Changlang district, police said on Friday.

Acting on specific inputs, the security forces conducted the operation in the general area of Namgoi under Nampong Police Station on September 16. During the operation, the suspected contraband was recovered concealed in 21 soap cases. Two persons were also apprehended in connection with the recovery.

Following the seizure, a case was registered at Nampong Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized substance.

The operation was carried out under the coordination of the 21 Assam Rifles, Arunachal Pradesh Police and CRPF as part of ongoing efforts to check the trafficking and circulation of narcotic substances in the region.

Police said continued coordination among security and law-enforcement agencies remains crucial in tackling drug trafficking and other illegal activities, particularly in the border areas of the Northeast.
