ITANAGAR, Sep 19: Chairman, Information Technology and Communication (IT&C), Arunachal Pradesh, Nyamar Karbak has called upon students and researchers to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly and ethically while protecting their original academic and research work.
Karbak was speaking during his interaction with students, researchers and university officials at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) during the three-day national seminar on ‘Emerging AI Technologies for Sports Biomechanics and Drone Application’.
He cautioned students against using AI merely as a shortcut for completing assignments and advised them not to indiscriminately upload or share original or unpublished research papers and other sensitive academic material on AI platforms.
“AI should be used as a helping tool, not as a master. Students and researchers must use these technologies responsibly while protecting their original work and developing their own analytical and problem-solving abilities,” he said.
Karbak encouraged students to understand the underlying concepts and technologies behind AI rather than becoming overly dependent on AI-generated outputs. He said responsible adoption of emerging technologies would be important for developing an innovation-oriented workforce in Arunachal Pradesh.
During the interaction, RGU officials highlighted growing interest among students and researchers in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and related fields. They pointed to the need for high-performance GPU computing infrastructure to support advanced AI research in the State.
The university representatives also requested the Chairman to reconsider the proposed relocation of the AI Centre of Excellence (AI CoE), highlighting RGU’s status as a Central University and its role in the State’s higher education and research ecosystem. They also cited the university’s proximity to NERIST, availability of academic and research resources and connectivity as factors that could support collaboration among educational institutions, researchers, students and technology experts.
The discussions underlined the need to strengthen AI research infrastructure, GPU computing capacity, skill development and institutional collaboration to enable students and researchers from Arunachal Pradesh to undertake advanced research and develop technology-based solutions relevant to the State and the region.
