ZIRO, Sep 21: The seven-day Special NSS Camp organised by Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (IGTAMSU) at its adopted village Hong concluded on Sunday, with student volunteers undertaking a range of activities focused on healthcare, environmental conservation, sanitation and social awareness.
The camp, conducted under the NSS motto “Not Me But You,” brought students from different academic disciplines together with local residents for community-based initiatives.
Beginning September 14, volunteers from Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences conducted a preventive healthcare drive near Tapi Lepang, offering health consultations and spreading awareness on hygiene.
A Mini Marathon was organised the following day with the participation of local youth to promote fitness and healthy living. On September 16, students of Medical Laboratory Science and Radiology planted native saplings and interacted with villagers on the importance of protecting local biodiversity.
The camp’s health outreach continued with a voluntary blood donation drive on September 17, organised in collaboration with the Blood Centre at Gyati Takka General Hospital, Ziro. The drive collected 28 units of blood.
Social awareness and cleanliness activities formed part of the final phase of the camp. Commerce and Management students conducted sessions on gender equity, equal pay and educational opportunities on September 18, followed by a village-wide sanitation drive on September 19.
The camp concluded with an action trek on September 20 to mark World Cleanup Day, during which volunteers collected waste from local trails and surrounding areas. The university appreciated the cooperation of Hong residents, healthcare officials and other stakeholders, while commending the volunteers for their active participation in community service.
