LIKABALI, Sep 22: A District Level Consultation Meeting (DLCM) on the registration of births and deaths in Lower Siang district was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Gobi Nyicyor.
The meeting focused on strengthening and streamlining the system of registration of births and deaths in the district, with particular emphasis on the transition from the existing manual system to a fully digital registration process through the dedicated portal introduced by the government.
Addressing the meeting, the DC stressed the importance of ensuring that every birth and death occurring within the district is properly recorded and registered within the prescribed framework. He emphasised that the transition to the digital system should be carried out in a systematic and coordinated manner so that records are maintained accurately and the process of issuing registration certificates becomes faster, more transparent and accessible to the public.
He further highlighted the important role of hospitals and other health institutions, where a substantial number of births and deaths are reported, in maintaining accurate records and ensuring their timely submission and digital registration.
The DC called upon all concerned officials and stakeholders to work in close coordination so that there is no gap between the occurrence of an event, its recording and the subsequent issuance of the required certificate.
The meeting was attended by concerned officers and stakeholders, including administrative officers from various outposts of the district. The participants shared their experiences, practical difficulties and suggestions regarding the existing system of registration.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to identify areas requiring greater coordination and improvement for effective implementation of the digital registration system.
At the outset, Asstt Director Economics & Statistics, Lower Siang, Tojum Potom apprised the participants of the latest guidelines and procedures relating to the Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD) system and explained the roles and responsibilities of the different stakeholders involved in the process.
The meeting concluded with a call for coordinated efforts among the district administration, health institutions, registration authorities and other concerned stakeholders to ensure comprehensive, timely and accurate registration of births and deaths in Lower Siang district. (DIPRO)
