ITANAGAR, Sep 23: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has welcomed the publication of the Final Photo Electoral Roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, while calling for greater transparency, constituency-wise scrutiny and accessible grievance redressal following the substantial reduction in the state’s electorate.
The final roll, published on September 22, contains 6,96,026 electors, comprising 3,43,709 males, 3,52,315 females and two third-gender electors. The figure is 1,91,479 lower than the pre-SIR electorate of 8,87,505.
In a statement, the APCC appreciated the efforts of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Arunachal Pradesh, and officials and field-level functionaries involved in the revision exercise.
The party said the scale of the change makes constituency-wise scrutiny, public accessibility and effective grievance redressal particularly important. It maintained that while removal of entries relating to deceased, shifted, duplicate or otherwise ineligible electors is part of electoral-roll revision, protection of eligible voters is equally important.
According to the figures cited by the APCC, the draft roll published on July 21 contained 7,18,046 electors, including 6,32,871 mapped and 85,175 unmapped electors. A total of 2,18,588 notices were issued for verification, while 18,598 applications were received during the claims-and-objections period. Following scrutiny, 8,803 electors were added and 1,924 deleted from the draft roll.
The APCC urged the election authorities to make constituency-wise data on additions and deletions accessible, along with broad category-wise details of exclusions, claims and objections, subject to privacy safeguards.
It also sought special attention to elderly citizens, residents of remote and border areas, seasonal migrants, students, government employees and defence and security personnel, citing Arunachal’s difficult terrain and dispersed settlements.
The party said its organisation in the 20-Tali Assembly constituency had reportedly submitted a complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer alleging discrepancies, including multiple enrolments and continued inclusion of names of deceased persons. The APCC stressed that these were allegations requiring verification and did not prejudge any inquiry.
The party appealed to citizens to verify their names and particulars in the final roll and use prescribed statutory remedies for inclusion or correction. The CEO Arunachal Pradesh portal provides access to the SIR 2026 final roll, the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) list and statutory forms including Forms 6, 7 and 8.
The APCC said it would examine the final SIR data constituency-wise and district-wise and bring independently verified discrepancies to the notice of the competent electoral authorities.
