ITANAGAR, Sep 25: An awareness-cum-training program on cultivation of mushroom was organized by CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology, Branch-Itanagar at its Naharlagun premises, which was attended by about 25 BSc students of Dept of Forestry, NERIST today.
Dr Chandan Tamuly, Sr Principal Scientist & In Charge, CSIR-NEIST, Branch-Itanagar, spoke briefly about the institute and ongoing research and development activities, facilities for the students and societal activity carried out in the organization.
Dr R K Rawal, Scientist-E motivated the students for their scientific carrier and future endovours.
Priyanka Kakoti, Tech Assist, delivered a technical presentation on ‘Scientific and commercial Cultivation of Mushroom and its prospective’.
Further, a hands-on training was provided to all students on Cultivation of Mushroom. Moreover, training was provided on “Extraction of essential oil from Aromatic plants”, “Production of Vermicompost” and they visited the site of Production of Biofertilizer, Processing unit of post-harvest management like drying, slicing washing for the crop like turmeric, ginger, chilli etc.
The students actively participated in the program. A quiz competition was also organized among the students under Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign-2026, who were distributed seedlings of medicinal plants.
