ITANAGAR, Sep 26: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing, who is also Chairman of the Empowered High-Level Committee on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), reviewed the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities at a meeting with heads of departments, administrative officers and paramilitary personnel at the DC Office Conference Hall in Yingkiong on Saturday.
The Empowered High-Level Committee constituted to guide and coordinate the PFR survey and associated activities for the proposed hydropower project in Upper Siang and Siang districts, got the Cabinet nod on Wednesday last.
This was Tasing’s maiden meeting with the district-level officers in his capacity as chairman of the committee.
Emphasising the importance of continuous public engagement, Tasing called for meaningful dialogue with stakeholders to build confidence, address concerns and ensure effective communication regarding the project.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the SUMP, the minister urged all concerned officers to adopt a proactive and coordinated approach for the smooth and timely conduct of the PFR exercise while ensuring transparency, due process and adherence to prescribed procedures.
Tasing clarified that the PFR exercise is primarily aimed at conducting surveys and technical assessments to ascertain the feasibility of the proposed project and does not, by itself, constitute a final decision on its implementation.
He stressed the need for factual and responsible communication on the project and directed officers to address public concerns through transparent dialogue and ensure that only verified information is disseminated.
The minister further called for systematic documentation of public views and feedback and directed the submission of weekly progress reports covering PFR activities, field developments, public interactions and issues requiring attention.
Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr Ashok Tajo apprised the minister of the current status of activities and assured coordinated efforts by the district administration and concerned departments.
Superintendent of Police Dekio Gumja briefed the meeting on security arrangements being put in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the activities.
