PASIGHAT, Sep 28: A training programme on ‘Sustainable Cultivation and Management Practices of Fruit Crops for Enhancing Farmers’ Income and Livelihoods’ was organized at the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF), CAU, Pasighat, by ICAR–AICRP on Fruits in collaboration with the Centre for Fruitful India (CFI), New Delhi.
The programme was attended by 25 farmers from Mebo, Mirem and Pasighat areas of East Siang district, with a focus on scientific and sustainable cultivation of Arunachal Orange.
Prof L Wangchu, Dean CHF, highlighted the importance and potential of citrus cultivation for enhancing farmers’ income and strengthening the horticulture sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
The technical sessions covered Good Agricultural Practices, quality planting material, citrus propagation, nutrient management, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), and sustainable plant protection measures. Dr Rohit Shukla, Principal Investigator, ICAR–AICRP on Fruits, and Dr P K Nimbolkar, Principal Investigator CFI, along with Dr Barun Singh, Head, Dr N Devachandra and Dr C Mukhim, Assistant Professors, Department of Fruit Science, provided technical guidance to the participants.
The programme also featured a practical demonstration and farmer–scientist interaction, addressing field-level challenges related to citrus orchard and nursery management. The initiative aimed to promote diversified fruit villages, sustainable fruit production and improved livelihood opportunities for farmers in the State.
