TAWANG, Oct 3: A five-day Skill Development Training Programme on ‘Vermicomposting and Entrepreneurship Development’ concluded yesterday at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tawang, benefiting 25 progressive farmers of the district.
Chaired by the Assistant Commissioner Kyidphel Sangey Norbu, the concluding session was attended by the Agriculture Development Officer Jang, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Tawang Dr Anjanand Tripathy, officials and participating farmers.
Addressing the participants, Dr Tripathy highlighted the wide scope of vermicomposting in sustainable agriculture and its potential to develop into a viable income-generating enterprise for farmers. He encouraged the participants to make effective use of locally available organic resources and adopt vermicomposting as an environmental friendly farming practice.
The AC, in his speech, elaborated on the importance of vermicomposting in safeguarding the environment and securing the future of sustainable agriculture. Emphasis was laid on reducing dependence on chemical inputs, improving soil health and promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices for long-term productivity.
As part of the concluding programme, a mega plantation drive was organised under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, during which 30 saplings were planted by the participants and officials, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation and collective responsibility towards a greener future.
Vegetable and barley seeds were also distributed among the participating farmers on the occasion.
The five-day training equipped the participating farmers with knowledge and practical skills in vermicompost production, its application in agriculture and its potential for entrepreneurship and additional income generation.
