BOMDILA, Oct 7: Kalaktang MLA Tseten Chombay and West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar on Tuesday inspected the proposed site for a Medi-City at Nasombow, Dukumpani, under Rupa sub-division, as part of efforts to explore an integrated healthcare and medical education hub in the district.
The inspection was conducted along with the Group Director of ProGrow and her team to assess the feasibility and scope of the proposed facility. The site, under the jurisdiction of Tukpen Village Council, was assessed for land availability and other development requirements.
The ProGrow team expressed interest in the proposal and suggested exploring additional land to facilitate development of a larger and more comprehensive Medi-City. The proposed facility could include a medical college, paramedical and nursing institutions, health and wellness centres and other allied healthcare services.
The team also visited District Hospital, Bomdila, and reviewed its existing infrastructure and facilities. ProGrow expressed interest in exploring possibilities for collaborative utilisation and management of the available infrastructure and indicated willingness to examine the strengthening and management of existing rehabilitation facilities, including the rehabilitation centre at Bhalukpong.
At Rupa, the team inspected government infrastructure that could potentially be utilised for the proposed initiative. The facilities may provide immediate support for classes, hostel accommodation and an administrative block, subject to due procedures, arrangements and necessary approvals.
The team included ADC Rupa Lobsang Tsetan, officers of PHED, Bomdila, officials of the District Medical Office, ZPM Rupa K D Thongdok and Tukpen Village Council secretary Dorjee Tsering Khrimey.
The visit assumes significance against the backdrop of the State Government's initiative to establish a medical college in West Kameng under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The proposed Medi-City is envisaged as an integrated healthcare and medical education hub that could strengthen healthcare delivery and medical, nursing and allied health education facilities in the district.
