ITANAGAR, Oct 8: Demanding justice in the mysterious death of young college student Chera Rani, her family members and relatives staged a peaceful protest in front of the Yupia Sessions Court on Thursday.
The family members gathered outside the sessions court when Tana Tahi, who was arrested by the police in connection with the alleged murder of Rani, was produced before the court.
Rani, a student of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, was found dead at her rented accommodation at Chimpu, Itanagar, in the early hours of October 2. Police recovered her body from the residence and subsequently arrested Tahi in connection with the case.
Rani’s family has alleged that she was murdered and accused Tahi, who they said was her boyfriend, of being responsible for her death. The allegations, however, are yet to be established, and police are continuing their investigation.
Refusing to accept the circumstances surrounding her death, the bereaved family pointed to several alleged inconsistencies that they believe warrant a detailed investigation.
According to family members, the ligature mark around Rani’s neck appeared uneven. They also claimed that although a scarf was found hanging from a window of the apartment, the nature of the mark suggested that a rope might have been used.
The family further alleged that bruises were found on Rani’s body, raising suspicions about the circumstances of her death. They have urged the authorities to conduct a detailed and impartial investigation to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances of her death.
