ITANAGAR, Oct 10: The Planning and Investment Department, GoAP, has cautioned the public against fraudsters demanding money or commissions in the name of department officials to secure government scheme approvals or release of funds.
In a release, the department urged the public, contractors, community organisations and beneficiaries not to make payments or share banking credentials with anyone promising official approvals or expedited processing. It warned that fraudsters might use forged documents, signatures and identity cards to deceive people.
The department advised the public to verify scheme-related information directly with it through official channels. Any demand for money, gifts or favours in exchange for approvals should be treated as suspicious and may attract legal action under applicable laws.
Victims and witnesses have been urged to preserve evidence, including messages, phone numbers, screenshots, account details and documents, and report such incidents to the nearest police station, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on WhatsApp at 9436040040, or the department.
The department said complaints would be treated confidentially and prompt reporting would help prevent further fraud and enable legal action. It added that the state government had operationalised the Lokayukta, upgraded the ACB and introduced e-Office across departments to strengthen transparency and accountability, with further measures planned to combat corruption.
