NIRJULI, Oct 12: Around 500 participants, including school students, senior runners and fitness enthusiasts, took part in the Itanagar Marathon Promo Run - Nirjuli Edition held at NERIST Ground, Nirjuli, on Sunday as organisers stepped up preparations for the main event scheduled for November 1.
Organised by Foxtail Sports Foundation in collaboration with Nirjuli Run Club, the promotional run was held under the theme ‘Run for a Fit, Clean, Green and Drug-Free Itanagar’, promoting fitness, environmental awareness and a drug-free society.
The event featured inter-school and open categories, drawing participants from across the Itanagar Capital Region.
As part of efforts to encourage wider participation in the main marathon, 50 school students and 12 open-category participants were selected for free entry. Similar initiatives were undertaken during earlier promotional runs in Itanagar and Naharlagun.
The event was attended by Pakke Kessang Deputy Commissioner Likha Teji, Rural Works Department Superintending Engineer Marnya Chiram, NERIST Professor and Dean of Student Affairs P R Gajurel, Wild Horn Exploration CEO Mojum Riba and event brand ambassador Amini Laa.
The run was led by Foxtail Sports Foundation CEO Pei Ijum Gadi and Nirjuli Run Club executive Domum Karlo, along with volunteers and members of the organising teams.
The Nirjuli edition was part of a series of promotional runs aimed at building momentum for the November 1 marathon and encouraging people, particularly young students, to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The main Itanagar Marathon 2026 will bring together runners from different age groups under the shared vision of a fitter, cleaner, greener and drug-free capital region.
