Guv calls for expansion of NCC activities in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Oct 13: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has called for expanding the National Cadet Corps (NCC) network across Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in remote and border areas, to provide more students with opportunities for leadership, personality development and career preparation.

The Governor made the call during a meeting with Group Commander of NCC Headquarters, Tezpur, Brig Mayank Vaid at Lok Bhavan here on Tuesday. During the meeting, they discussed measures to strengthen and expand NCC activities across the State.

The Governor appreciated NCC Headquarters, Tezpur, for successfully conducting activities in Arunachal Pradesh and commended the State’s cadets for their participation and commitment in the Republic Day Parade and the Prime Minister’s Rally.

Emphasizing the NCC’s role in youth development, Parnaik said the organization must continue to instil discipline, leadership, patriotism, unity and a spirit of service among young people. NCC training, he said, must help young people build confidence and character while nurturing responsible citizens committed to society and nation-building.

He stressed the need to encourage more students to enrol in the NCC and benefit from its activities. Calling for wider outreach, the Governor advocated establishing more NCC units in schools and colleges, particularly in remote and border areas, to ensure that rural and tribal youth get greater opportunities for personal development and leadership.

He also called for greater emphasis on adventure activities, trekking, mountaineering, disaster management, environmental conservation and national integration programmes in coordination with the Indian Army and other security forces.

The Governor also stressed the need to strengthen training infrastructure, provide adequate equipment and qualified instructors, and organize regular camps. Integrating physical fitness, personality development and career guidance into NCC programmes would help cadets prepare for careers in the Armed Forces, explore Agniveer opportunities and pursue other public services, he said.

Expressing confidence in the potential of the NCC to shape the State’s youth, Parnaik said expanding its network would help nurture disciplined, capable and patriotic citizens.
