PASIGHAT, Oct 24: Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering has expressed deep anguish over the alleged vandalisation and looting of his family’s ancestral home in Pasighat during unrest linked to protests against the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) on Friday night.
The house, built in 1954 by his late father, Dr Daying Ering, holds deep personal and historical significance for the family.
Describing the house as a repository of childhood memories, Ering said the alleged destruction and looting of belongings had caused immense emotional distress, with the loss extending beyond material possessions to items associated with the family’s history and heritage.
He strongly condemned the incident and expressed disappointment that a protest had allegedly escalated into damage to private property.
Family members, relatives, well-wishers and other visitors gathered at the house on Saturday to express solidarity with the Ering family.
The incident has renewed concerns over the damage to private property amid public protests. The circumstances surrounding the alleged vandalisation and the identification of those responsible remain subject to investigation.
