Nidak Danyi sanctuary proposal faces opposition over alleged land irregularities

From a Correspondent

DUMPORIJO, Oct 24: Residents of Dui village in Upper Subansiri district have opposed the proposed Nidak Danyi Wildlife Sanctuary, alleging that nearly 80 per cent of their ancestral village land has been included in the proposed sanctuary without their knowledge or consent.

The villagers have submitted a formal complaint to the Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner, urging the district administration to suspend all further activities related to the proposal until their grievances are addressed.

In their complaint, the villagers alleged that the concerned department had failed to inform affected landowners or conduct proper consultations before preparing documents for the proposed sanctuary.

They also alleged that several signatures in the project-related documents had been forged and claimed that certain government officials had misled villagers, creating confusion within the community.

Seeking an inquiry into the alleged irregularities, the villagers urged the state government and district administration to identify those responsible and initiate appropriate legal action if any wrongdoing is established.

They maintained that no further steps should be taken towards establishing the proposed sanctuary without proper consultation with affected landowners and the people of Dui village.

The allegations could not be independently verified, and the response of the concerned department and district administration was not available at the time of filing this report.
