Indian Army, Run Monks organise maiden Menchuka Valour Run

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: They Indian Army, in collaboration with Run Monks, organised the maiden edition of the Menchuka Valour Run 2026 at Menchuka Valley in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi-Yomi district on Sunday, drawing nearly 500 runners and fitness enthusiasts.

The event was organised as part of the celebrations leading up to Infantry Day, observed on October 27, to honour the courage and sacrifices of infantry personnel. Local residents turned out in large numbers to cheer the participants.

The run featured three categories — 5-km Salute Run, 10-km Valour Run and 21-km Spear Run — and was open to participants of all age groups and genders. The programme began with Zumba and yoga sessions before the races were flagged off.

A display of modern infantry weapons and equipment was also organised, giving residents an opportunity to learn about the Indian Army’s equipment and operational capabilities.

The event featured cultural performances by personnel of the Garhwal and Sikh regiments, including Khukri Dance, Bhangra and Gatka. Children from Menchuka presented a traditional Memba cultural dance, showcasing the region’s heritage.

Winners across the race categories received cash prizes and vouchers, with the total prize pool exceeding Rs 1.25 lakh.

The maiden edition aimed to promote fitness, adventure sports and youth participation while strengthening civil-military relations in the border region. The enthusiastic response also highlighted Menchuka Valley’s potential as a destination for endurance events and adventure tourism.

The organisers said the event had laid the foundation for future editions, bringing together sporting activity, cultural exchange and recognition of the Indian Army’s infantry traditions.
