Dy CM urges youth to preserve heritage, explore entrepreneurship

PALIN, Oct 30: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has called upon the youth to preserve their indigenous cultural heritage, explore entrepreneurial opportunities and contribute actively to the development of Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing the valedictory function of the silver jubilee celebrations of the All Palin, Chambang, Yangte, Gangte and Tarak-Lengdi Students’ Union (APCYGTSU) at Palin on Thursday, Mein highlighted the growing opportunities available to the younger generation and urged them to make the best use of emerging platforms in sports, culture, agriculture and other fields.

The celebrations, held under the theme “Honouring the Past, Charting the Future”, marked 25 years of the union’s journey and its contribution to the student community. Ministers Balo Raja and Ojing Tasing also attended the programme.

Recalling the limited opportunities available to earlier generations, Mein said young people today have greater avenues to identify and showcase their talents. Citing platforms such as Arunachal Idol, Arunachal’s Got Talent and Miss Arunachal, he said increased exposure had helped bring out the confidence and creativity of the state’s youth. He also appreciated the growing confidence and communication skills of young women participating in events such as Miss APCYGTSU 2026.

Emphasising the need to look beyond government employment, Mein encouraged young people to take up entrepreneurship and avail themselves of government schemes and incentives. He identified tourism as a sector with considerable potential, given the state’s biodiversity, cultural diversity and natural beauty.

With improving road connectivity and tourism infrastructure, he said, opportunities in homestays, resorts, restaurants and other tourism-related enterprises were expanding.

The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed that modernisation and development should not come at the cost of cultural identity. He urged the younger generation to preserve indigenous languages, document oral histories, protect traditional knowledge and safeguard written and oral literature for future generations. He also called for the preservation and digitisation of ancient manuscripts.

Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s natural resources, including hydropower and minerals, Mein said their responsible exploration could support economic growth and generate greater opportunities for the people.

Mein urged the youth to channel their energy and abilities towards building a peaceful, progressive and developed Arunachal Pradesh.

Congratulating APCYGTSU on completing 25 years, he appreciated the Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee and the union for bringing students and communities together through a celebration of shared heritage, cultural identity and youthful aspirations.

The programme also featured cultural performances and the grand finale of Miss APCYGTSU 2026.
