ITANAGAR, Nov 1: Six young sportspersons from Arunachal Pradesh have been selected for specialised training at the Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune, following a three-day talent scouting camp held in Tawang from October 27 to 29.
More than 70 students from across the state participated in the camp, which identified promising talent in archery, weightlifting and athletics. Of the six selected candidates, four are from archery, while one each has been selected for weightlifting and athletics.
According to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the selected youngsters will receive free education along with specialised sports training in their respective disciplines at the Army Sports Institute.
Describing the initiative as an opportunity to identify and nurture sporting talent across Arunachal Pradesh, Khandu said the state government would make the talent scouting camp an annual event in collaboration with the Indian Army.
He also thanked the Indian Army and all those involved in organising the initiative, expressing hope that the programme would help more young athletes from remote parts of the state access professional training and opportunities.
