PASIGHAT, Nov 3: Students of Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), Pasighat, showcased five innovative products at an entrepreneurship programme organised by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the university’s Satellite Incubation Cell (SIC) on Monday.
Titled “Prarambh: The Beginning of Enterprise”, the programme aimed to promote innovation, entrepreneurial thinking and practical business skills among students. A product launch competition was the main attraction, featuring five student-developed products — HOMMEDY, a fermented pineapple wine; PASIGHAT CRUNCH, cassava chips; JOJO, a gel-based air freshener; EASTERN AMBING, a rice-based soap; and ASLI OIL, a locally produced oil.
JOJO emerged as the winner for its innovative concept and presentation and received a certificate and cash prize.
Appreciating the initiative, APU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashan Riddi described it as an important beginning for the university and its students. Referring to the objectives of the National Education Policy, he emphasised the need to develop responsible and capable citizens through critical thinking, multidisciplinary learning and the integration of practical experiences with classroom education.
The entries were evaluated by Ninna Lego, founder of House of Macnok; Dr Rajen Miwu, Head of the Department of Commerce; and Dr Fames Linggi, Head of the Department of Economics.
During an interactive session, Lego shared her entrepreneurial journey and spoke about the potential of transforming indigenous skills and traditional craftsmanship of Arunachal Pradesh, including the art of making gales, into sustainable business opportunities while preserving cultural identity.
She encouraged students to understand market needs, maintain authenticity and consider three fundamental questions before starting a venture: whom they intend to serve, what they plan to offer and why they want to enter business.
Earlier, Dr Rajen Miwu highlighted the practical application of academic knowledge and outlined support available under the Arunachal Pradesh Entrepreneurship Development Programme (APEDP), along with other State and Central government initiatives.
Dr Yab Rajiv Camder, Assistant Professor, encouraged students to explore vocational learning, develop innovative ideas and become creators rather than mere consumers. He also spoke about business opportunities and available funding schemes.
Programme coordinator Dr Chiging Yamang presented an overview of Prarambh and stressed the importance of moving beyond theoretical learning towards hands-on experiences to build entrepreneurial skills and confidence.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Assistant Professor Tenzin Chimey said the initiative sought to nurture innovative ideas and encourage students to become job creators rather than job seekers. Assistant Professor Obinam Tayeng delivered the vote of thanks.
