APSFC reviews PDS, food security schemes in Kurung Kumey

KOLORIANG, Nov 5: Arunachal Pradesh State Food Commission (APSFC) Chairman Tarh Tarak on Thursday inspected the implementation of food security schemes in Kurung Kumey district, reviewing the functioning of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown, wholesale nominee and fair price shops (FPS) at Koloriang.

The Commission team interacted with representatives of the FCI, wholesale nominee and FPS owners to assess the functioning of the public distribution system (PDS) and schemes such as the National Food Security Act (NFSA), Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and PM POSHAN.

Addressing officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Tarak said the visit was aimed at identifying operational bottlenecks and helping the administration and departments improve the delivery of welfare schemes, particularly in remote areas.

He said the Commission was not visiting to conduct an enquiry or audit but to facilitate the resolution of issues affecting the implementation of NFSA, PM POSHAN, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK).

Emphasising the need to ensure that benefits reach the most vulnerable sections, including people below the poverty line, he called for coordinated efforts by the departments and administration to translate government policies into effective public services.

Tarak informed the meeting that 354 schools had so far been provided with kitchen sheds. The Commission had recommended that the state government enhance the allocation for construction of kitchen rooms to Rs 10 lakh. It had also proposed an increase in cooks' honorarium and provision of LPG connections, he said.

He urged district officials to apprise the Commission of difficulties faced in implementing schemes relating to education, health, women and child development so that the issues could be taken up with the concerned departments and state government.

The chairman also asked the additional deputy commissioners posted at district headquarters to discharge the responsibilities of District Grievance Redressal Officers (DGROs) and address complaints from the public and officials concerning NFSA and the PDS.

The inspection and meeting were attended by the Kurung Kumey ADC, Deputy Director of Social Welfare and Women and Child Development, DDSE, DMO, DFCSO, CDPO, representatives of various organisations, FCI officials, wholesale nominee and FPS functionaries, among others.
